I decided to do my own mixing medium.  It’s VERY easy to do and it makes your loose powders look amazing!

For all of you that aren’t familiar with what mixing medium is and what it’s used for, it is a liquid that helps your loose powders or pigments adhere to the skin.

You’ll need the following supplies:

  • Water
  • Pure glycerin
  • Clean empty container with lid
  • Measuring spoon

mixing medium-makeup tools-how to make mixing mediumTo do a water-based mixing medium you need to do a mixture of 3 parts water and 1 part glycerin.  You can purchase pure glycerin in just about any drugstore.  I forgot where I got my bottle of glycerin from, but I can tell you this, I have seen small bottles at CVS for about 5 dollars.

After you added your water and glycerin, close your container and shake it well.  Yeah.  That’s it for making the acutal mixing medium.  Very simple, right?
Remember, since we aren’t adding any preservatives to our homemade mixing medium, this stuff should only be used for TWO WEEKS at a time.  Anything after that should be tossed out.  So, just keep that in mind when your mixing your ingredients.  You don’t want to make too much mixing medium only to have to throw it all out.
You can always use little stick on labels to remind you of the date you made your current batch of mixing medium.

How to USE mixing medium for loose powders: mixing medium-makeup tools-how to make mixing medium-makeup brush

Okay, so after you have made your mixing medium, slightly dampen your brush with mixing medium.  You don’t want your brush soaked in mixing medium, all you really need is a few drops.  So, if your brush is too wet, simply blot the excess off on a piece of paper towel.

I’m using an Eye Dust from Jessy Girl Cosmetics.  Unfortunately, I’m not sure what the name of the color is but it’s a beautiful, vibrant blue.

The key ingredients on most beauty products are things that you already have at home.  It’s true!  For example, take a look at this hair conditioner:

This product is enriched with ingredients you might already have in your kitchen.  This hair treatment is easy to replicate with a little mayonnaise, olive oil, and eggs.  Using these three basic ingredients will give you the same great benefits that Hair Mayonnaise will.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Take 1/2 to 1 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 egg
  •  3-5 tablespoons of olive oil

Mix all the ingredients and apply it to your dry hair.  Give yourself a scalp massage and work it in through your hair.  Leave it on for fifteen minutes or longer if your hair is extremely damaged.  For added benefits, wear a plastic shower cap or a plastic bag over your hair.  Shampoo your hair.

You’ll love this at-home treatment.  Not only is it simple to do, it works!  Mayonnaise is an amazing moisturizer and so are olive oil and eggs.

If you prefer not to do this treatment using your own ingredients, you can always purchase Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise at Sally’s Beauty Supply for $10.
