Have you heard about the wrinkle-fighting prowess of L-ascorbic acid?
Sure, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but did you know that an orange a day banishes wrinkles away? It’s true according to a study from the American Diabetic Association reveals that eating foods and using cosmetics that are rich in vitamin C helps fight wrinkles as well as the pre-mature signs of aging.
Aside from eating a healthy vitamin C-rich diet, a regular morning and night skin care regime will help skin stay hydrated. If you add the benefits of wearing sunscreen religiously and quitting smoking—the wrinkle-fighting prowess of vitamin C will do the rest by working wonders on your skin. Compare the cost of vitamin C cosmetics to stocking up on injectable age-fighters like Botox, which can cost close to $350 to $400 dollars for each initial injection area—although you can save a bundle by purchasing a vial (which contains approximately 100 units) for just under $400 via an online Canadian Pharmacy.
That’s why so many make up products contain vitamin C, or L-ascorbic acid, a popular form of vitamin C that’s tapped in many popular skin care lines—like Josie Maran, Obagi, SkinCeuticals and Cellex-C—for its antioxidant and collagen-boosting properties. L-ascorbic acid has been actually proven to prevent oxidative stress and stimulate the synthesis of collagen, which is essential because the body naturally produces less collagen as we age. L-ascorbic acid also minimizes fine lines, scars and wrinkles.
How do vitamin C-rich make up products work to fight the signs of aging?
As a powerful antioxidant, vitamin C helps prevent free-radical damage caused by outside factors (like harmful UV rays and natural cell metabolism that occurs with age).
L-ascorbic acid is one form of vitamin C that’s easily absorbed and utilized by the skin.
Our skin’s connective tissue, known as collagen, is dependent on L-ascorbic acid in order to encourage new collagen and elastin production—and younger looking skin.
Natural vitamin C ingredients that are used in cosmetics are also antibacterial and antimicrobial.
Vitamin C is also commonly used in moisturizers and toner for its refreshing, clean scent.
L-ascorbic acid helps naturally restore the pH of your skin after cleansing, which makes it a popular ingredient in skin toner, plus it’s soothing properties reduce skin irritation and redness.
Lastly, vitamin C works wonders on the skin of those prone to acne because it protects skin from further infection and heals blemishes keep while keeping skin smooth and nourished.
What vitamin-C-rich products should you look for in your cosmetics?
Many cosmetics companies use ingredients like organic cranberry powder, citrus oils and extracts (including grapefruit, orange, bergamot and lime), cucumber for their high vitamin C concentrations.
Rich emollient ingredients, such as baobab oil, are also high in vitamin C and the nourishing properties of essential fatty acids that boost elasticity and restore sun-stressed and dry, damaged skin.
Algae extract, a powerful cosmetic-infused nutrient that’s rich in amino acids and vitamin C also enhances skin cell formation.
Rosehip oil has been utilized for hundreds of years by South American Indians for its healing, moisturizing and regeneration properties. The oil is taken from a rare rose that grows in Chile’s Andes Mountains.

This Halloween, I’m going to dress up as a Sylvia Ji-inspired Dia de los Muertos girl (a.k.a. La Catrina)! It’s a great halloween look and best of all, you can make it look sexy instead of scary!
The look:
For this look, you can wear just about anything you want. You can wear a traditional Mexican dress, a wedding gown, a Victorian dress or something sexy. I like the pin-up look so I will be wearing a black corset and a black, long pencil skirt.
You can match your outfit with a pretty hat, a veil, or flowers in your hair. I’m not a hat person so I will decorate my hair with flowers. I’m still debating on what color to use. I’m thinking black or red roses.
The Makeup:
For the makeup look, you will need white makeup and a few bold colors to create the designs around your face. During Halloween season, you can get a makeup kit from any Halloween store, Target, Wal-mart or any other place that sells costume stuff. These kits usually always come with white, black and red creme colors, however, the quality might not be the best. Also, you will need makeup brushes, use the brushes you already own or pick up a few at Micheal’s.
Or you can skip the makeup brushes all together and use different shades of eyeliners or lip liner. If you are new to makeup application I highly recommend you use makeup pencils, they’re easier to control then makeup brushes.
Optional:
Add rhinestones and false lashes!
