Things you’ll need to put on mascara properly:
- Mascara with wand
- Eyelash curler
- Lash comb or an old, clean mascara wand
- Cotton swab (Q-tip)
- Eye makeup remover
- Tissue
Start off by curling your clean eyelashes with an eyelash curler.
Curling your lashes, will open up your eyes and make them look brighter. Just be careful not to press too hard on your lashes, because it could make them look bent instead of curled. Also, make sure your eyelash curler is completely open before you pull it away from your eye. You definitely don’t want to pull out any of your lashes. Ouch!
Tip: Before curling your lashes, use a hair dryer to warm-up your eyelash curler for a few seconds and then curl your lashes. Just make sure the eyelash curler isn’t too hot, though.
Apply mascara to your bottom lashes by turning the wand vertically and carefully moving it from side to side. When applying mascara to your lower lashes, less is always better. So before you coat you lower lashes, use a tissue to wipe off any excess mascara on your brush.
I used to do my top lashes first, but I always got mascara on my eyelids when I did my lower lashes. It was extremely frustrating and time consuming. I hated getting mascara on my eye makeup. So, ever since I started doing the bottom lashes before the top ones, I haven’t had to redo my eyeshadows or clean up any mascara smudges as much as I used to.

After curling your lashes and applying mascara to your bottom lashes, the next step is to apply mascara to your top lashes. Dip the brush into the mascara tube and remove the brush from the tube in one pull. Slightly tilt your head back, look down into a mirror and hold the brush parallel to your eyelid.
Gently pull the brush up from the root to the tips of your lashes, wiggling your brush back and forth as you go up. Doing this will keep your lashes separated and clump free.
Extra Steps:
-
Apply two or more coats of mascara for a dramatic effect.
-
If lashes are stuck together or if you can see clumps of mascara, use a lash comb or an old mascara brush to brush through your lashes.
-
Remove any mascara smudges with a cotton swab dipped in eye makeup remover.
