Moisturizer

Your makeup, especially foundation sticks better to your face when your skin is clean, moisturized and ready for application.  That means you must get in the habit of caring for your skin everyday.  Because skin that is well-cared for not only is it healthier but it allows for a smoother makeup application.

So, to prepare your face for perfect looking makeup, here’s what you do:

1.  Apply cleansing cream or lotion.

Before you start, use a headband or hair clip to pull your hair back and keep it out of the way.

Next, place dabs of cleanser on your forehead, nose, cheeks, chin and neck.  Use light upwards and outward circular movements to spread the cleanser over your face and neck.

2.  Remove cleanser.

Use tissue, a damp washcloth or moist cotton balls to remove the cleanser.  Be especially gentle when removing the cleanser from the delicate skin around the eyes.

Apply cleanser as needed.

3.  Apply astringent toner.

Moisten a cotton ball with the toner and smooth the cotton ball over your entire face and under the chin and neck.

4.  Apply moisturizer.

If  you have dry and delicate skin, apply a moisturizing lotion.  Simply dab a small amount of the moisturizer on the forehead, cheeks, chin and neck.  Blend upward over the face.  Also, it’s a good idea to apply a small amount of eye cream around your eyes.

5. Groom Eyebrows

This is the perfect time to remove any stray eyebrow hairs.  Just pull the hair in the same direction in which it grows.

Simply follow these five easy steps and voila, your skin is ready for a flawless makeup application.

Petroleum jelly is one of those must have products and you can use it on just about every inch of your body. It’s a good alternative to hand and foot creams and best of all, it’s a lot cheaper.

So here’s what you do to get softer feet:

  • Dab a generous amount of petroleum jelly onto your clean feet.  Rub it into each foot and between your toes.
  • Slip your feet into a pair of thick, cotton socks.  Keep them on all night and you’ll wake up to soft, smooth feet.

You can also apply this same technique  to your hands but instead of socks, use cotton gloves.  If you don’t currently have gloves then wear socks on your hands, it doesn’t matter.

Pond’s Cold Cream: The Cool Classic that removes make-up as it thoroughly deep cleans.

What does it do?
The classic rich cream deep cleans down to the pores to remove even the most stubborn make-up and impurities, while leaving skin soft and smooth.

How does it work?
Cold cream cleans thoroughly and gently, without stripping or drying and without harsh detergents. It’ll add essential moisture to dry skin, without leaving residue.

My thoughts:
Cold Cream is a great product that has been used as a makeup remover for years. I began using this at first because my mom always had a jar of Pond’s Cold Cream to clean and moisturize her face and neck with. I continued using this everyday, I believe it’s been over 14 years now, I’m not sure. Anyways, I really like this cold cream it’s inexpensive, it removes ALL of my makeup and it softens my skin.  Best of all, it doesn’t cause my skin to breakout!

I usually wash my face with a facial cleanser and then use a dab of cold cream to remove anything the face wash didn’t take off. Trust me, most face washes aren’t that great at removing all of your eye makeup (especially mascara and eyeliner), but with a little cold cream it all comes right off.

Two things I don’t like about this cold cream:

  1. The smell, it’s not awful but it’s strong and I wish it didn’t have it.
  2. It makes my face look shiny and greasy.

Regardless of the two reasons I gave above, I highly recommend POND’S cold cream.  But I do think it’s important that you only use this cream as part of your night time routine; unless, you love a shiny face during the day. ;) However, if you do use this cold cream during the day, you can dust a little face powder to minimize any shine.

What product(s) do you use to remove stubborn makeup?
