When I was younger and new to wearing makeup, my mom told me that the best makeup remover was Vaseline. So when I wanted to wear some mascara and eye liner, I would slather on Vaseline and spend some time in front of the mirror to remove my eye makeup.
It worked, but it often left my face very greasy and sometimes it wouldn’t remove all of the eye makeup. Over the years I tried lots of different makeup removers and they all had their share of pros and cons.
In recent years, I have been an avid user of the makeup remover cloths and they have worked great but recently, I noticed that my skin was starting to dry out and I needed something new to remove my makeup. I didn’t want to go out and play product roulette so I decided to go old school with a twist.
I pulled out my bottle of baby oil and poured a small amount on a paper towel [or cotton ball]. I rubbed it across my eye and was pleasantly surprised at how much of my eye makeup came off.
The great thing about using baby oil rather than Vaseline to remove your eye makeup is that it’s not as thick and twice as effective. I didn’t have to use a lot to completely remove my eye makeup. There was a small oil factor but all I had to do was wash my face and that was taken care of.
Overall, using baby oil as make up remover was a great accidental find. The great thing was that I used the store brand baby oil which costs just a little over $2 or you can get a small, travel bottle for under $1.
One small warning for contact lens wearers, make sure you’ve taken them off before you use the baby oil. Then once your makeup is off, wash the oil from your face and you have nice, clean, make-up free skin!
